We challenged six MQG members to design a quilt block using the following parameters: Base the design on a basic shape (e.g. square, triangle, circle, hexagon, and others) Have it measure 12 ½” x 12 ½” unfinished Use a specific color palette Upward, designed by Irina Timofeeva, reimagines the circle and square shapes. “This block of basic geometric shapes was inspired by Vasily Kandinsky’s Upward (part of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice). The lightness and harmony of simple shapes is my interpretation of the avant-garde art of the early 20th century.”
