Textile Talks features weekly presentations and panel discussions from the International Quilt Museum, the Modern Quilt Guild, Quilt Alliance, San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and Surface Design Association. The programs are held online at 2 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Pacific) each Wednesday. From the early use of pieced-together hides to fashion bedcoverings and clothing to individuals today making textile art for wall displays, the production of patchwork in South Africa has been an important aspect of the country’s material culture history. This presentation will provide an overview of that history, personal stories of the current quilting scene, and an introduction to using the Quilt Index to access the quilt collections in many South African museums and at the Michigan State University Museum.
