On-Demand Education – Quilting Improvisationally

Clara Stoikow is a German architect, maker, and quilter. In 2015, she, her husband, and their two kids moved from Berlin, Germany, to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they lived for five years. In 2020, they moved to a small town in Westchester County, not far from New York City.

Clara is an architect by training and has worked in this field for many years. In her free time, she loves to sew clothes and bags. She also enjoys hand embroidery, appliqué, fabric printing, and photography.

Clara’s first exposure to quilting was in 2012 when a sewing friend showed her hexagons made using English Paper Piecing. Since she didn’t have any family members or friends who quilted, the craft was new to her. Over the years, she has expanded her knowledge and techniques, not in classes or workshops, but through self-study and through working with others in Quilting Bees and group projects. She loves to learn by trying out new things, and makes her own original quilt designs.
