“The Halfervecent quilt is an oversized foundation paper piecing pattern. It came about as an evolution of a sketch I’d done awhile back. I’d been playing with the color wheel as a shape and had sewn up some small versions to just try out paper piecing on my own. I came across it again as I was thinking about this quilt design project. I started to play with how this sketch might translate to a full sized quilt. I’d been seeing geometric shapes trending in home decor and fashion and thought this would be a great design to translate as geometric and colorful. The reflection of shot cotton fabrics and metallic linen to the background gave this quilt the glow and light play I’d been hoping for. The name Halfervecent came to me as I was thinking about the two half circles of the design with the combination of the effervescence of the fabrics. It’s a great project to explore a lot of different colorful combinations while testing your skills with oversized paper piecing.” —Christine Ricks
