We challenged six MQG members to design a quilt block using the following parameters: Base the design on a basic shape (e.g. square, triangle, circle, hexagon, and others) Have it measure 12 ½” x 12 ½” unfinished Use a specific color palette Goody, designed by Birgitta Jadenfelt, reimagines the circle shape. “The inspiration for this block is the quarter circle block, or Drunkard’s Path block. This was my first love when thinking of quilt blocks. In my early pattern writing days, I wrote a pattern depicting a traditional Scandinavian candle holder, which needed a shape that looked like a prolonged or oval quarter circle with a sharp end instead of a softer one. I fell in love with this uniquely curved shape and have endearingly named it ‘my curve,’ using it in numerous patterns and designs since creating it. I continued playing with ‘my curve’ for some time and eventually added another element to the block, making it even more versatile depending on how you twist and turn it. One of those layouts is the basis of this block, and I named it Goody since it reminds me of the candy wrapped in paper.”
