“Generative design is a fascinating cross between art and science, and we are starting to see applications of it in quilting. This quilt was created using generative design through a program called Processing. Each of the five rows began as identical copies of each other, with 36 vertical stripes of blue, 18 of gray, and six of purple. The program then randomized each row, with each row becoming more random as you go from the bottom to the top row. The resulting design is called defrag because it nods to the old time-consuming task of de-fragmenting your hard drive.
