Mesa by Nancy Purvis, 2014
During my travel through the Southwest, I was amazed by the beautiful scenery. It was quite different from my lush, green, and tree-studded homeland-North Carolina. What I found most fascinating were the mesas. Their formations captured my eyes, and I knew I wanted to design a quilt around them. The flat tops up high above the planes are the only resemblance of mesas allowing a strong design to emerge. The use of a thrifted blue work shirt allowed me to incorporate a few of its irregularities and unique seams. It is machine pieced and quilted.
