Join us on November 2 for International Scrap Sorting Day Grab your scraps! It’s International Scrap Sorting Day on November 2, 2024. Why does sorting scraps deserve its own day? Fabric scraps often become a core part of the quilting experience – many quilt and sewing projects end with scraps. Making time to thoroughly sort, trim, and organize them is often put aside in favor of starting new projects. By organizing your scraps, you can more easily find ways to incorporate them into future projects. You never know what fabric gems are nestled in your scrap pile right now! Taking the time to organize your scraps is a great way to see what you have, be inspired to make something new, and encouraged to use what you have before procuring more. What do I do on International Scrap Sorting Day? Sort and use your scraps! It’s not limited to just one day, of course. Still, we hope you use this day to find all the scraps in your sewing space – including the ones tucked under other projects, stuffed in baskets, and hidden deep in crevices that haven’t seen the light of day for a while – or find a project to use your scraps (if you’re a member, we’ve got great project ideas below!). If you are finishing up QuiltCon submissions or working on other projects, keep the scraps in an accessible place and you’ll be ready for International Scrap Sorting Day! If you need a place to start, check out our Scrap Sorting Tips PDF – there are a few ideas on how to sort and organize your scraps. Share your scrap sorting on social media! We’d love to see your progress as you sort your scraps on Saturday, November 2. Use the tag #InternationalScrapSortingDay2024 to share your progress and see how others are sorting their scraps too. Feel free to share how you choose to organize scraps, what types of storage systems you use to hold scraps, and your tips for successful scrap management. We encourage everyone – members and the general public alike – to join in International Scrap Sorting Day! What can you do with all of those freshly sorted scraps? Members can use those freshly sorted and organized scraps to make one of the hundreds of quilt patterns, block studies, and other sewing projects in our Member Resource Library. Our team sorted through our scraps and yardage to make three scrappy versions of Resource Library patterns to inspire you on your next project! A scrappy version of the Bridges quilt (pattern by Anne Sullivan) A scrappy version of the Side Stripe block study (pattern by Renee Tallman) A scrappy version of the Positive Illuminations quilt (pattern by Heather Black) On your mark, grab your scraps, let’s sort!
