2022-23 Letter from Karen R. Cooper, Executive Director Karen R. Cooper Dear MQG Members, The period of July 2022 through June 2023 was a time of exciting change and growth for the MQG. In November 2022, we kicked off our 7th annual MQG Mini Swap with 540 members swapping modern mini quilts in early 2023. In December 2022, we ended our long-running MQG Pattern of the Month program, with all the patterns from this very successful program remaining available to members in the Resource Library. In February 2023, we celebrated 10 years of QuiltCon, kicking off the celebration with a look back at the previous Best in Show quilts and sharing various video and written interviews with these award-winning makers. We also hosted our first MQG Sew Along with around 500 members making the Criss Cross Chain pattern from the MQG Resource Library. QuiltCon 2023 was held in February in Atlanta, Georgia with near-record attendance. Chawne Kimber was the featured quilter and a special exhibit featured 20 of her works. In addition to Chawne’s work, quilts from the Brown Sugar Stitchers, the Fulton County Remembrance Project, and an MQG member exhibit of 20 Modern X quilts were also on display. Member quilts were exhibited in several locations during this year. Ten quilts were featured at the Houston International Quilt Festival in our Points of View exhibit, and the Selections of QuiltCon 2022 and 2023 traveled to Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon, the Australasian Quilt Show in Melbourne, Australia, and the Airing of the Quilts in Winterset, Iowa. We look forward to continuing to develop exciting content for members, as well as continuing efforts to create an inclusive and supportive community of modern quilters! Karen Back to the annual report
